Volunteer With MTN

Some people give money.
Some people give themselves.

Teach children who have never had a stable classroom. Sit with a woman learning to sew for the first time. Serve a hot meal to someone who has not eaten today. However you come — alone, with a team, or as a group — there is something here worth giving your time to.

“The children call every volunteer ‘teacher’ — whether you came to teach, to cook, or simply to be present. To them, you showed up. That is everything.”

MTN's volunteers come from every background — doctors and nurses, teachers and chefs, corporate teams on a CSR visit, individuals following a sense of calling. What they share is not a profession. It is a willingness to give their time to something that matters.

You will do real work.

Teach classes, train women in skills, serve meals, join health camps, work in our kitchens. You are not here to observe — you are part of the team from day one.

You will see real impact.

The children in our schools, the women learning to earn, the patients seen at a village health camp — you will meet the people your time is serving, and you will know it mattered.

Short stays are welcome.

A week, a month, a season. We do not believe a short stay is less valuable. Come for as long as you can give, and give it fully.

Corporate & Group Volunteering

Bring your team. Make it count.

Corporate teams, professional groups, and church or supporter groups are warmly welcomed. A group visit to MTN is not a photo opportunity — it is a chance to roll up your sleeves and contribute directly to the communities we serve.

Groups can join kitchen and feeding programmes, assist with construction or maintenance projects, participate in health camps, or simply spend time with the children. We will work with you to design a visit that is genuinely useful — and genuinely meaningful for your team.

CSR and corporate social responsibility visits welcomed
Church and supporter groups — short stays or extended visits
Group size from 2 to 20+ — we will plan around you
Mix of hands-on work and time with the communities you serve
Full coordination support from our team
Confirmation of dates required before travel — write to us first
Where You Can Contribute

Many ways to serve. All of them real.

From classrooms to kitchens, health camps to sewing halls — if you come ready to work, we will find you something meaningful to do. All we ask is that you let us know before you travel so we can prepare a proper placement.

🎓

Teaching & Education

Teachers, tutors, child development specialists, special needs educators

Teach in our residential schools serving orphaned and vulnerable children — English, core subjects, arts, or remedial support. You work alongside local teachers, strengthen their methods, and leave behind resources they can continue using.

What we ask
  • Teaching qualification or demonstrated classroom experience
  • Confirmed placement and subject scope before travel
🧵

Sewing & Life Skills

Tailors, crafters, catering professionals, vocational trainers, anyone with a practical skill to share

Work with women in our livelihood programme — sewing, bag-stitching, catering, pottery, or food processing. You don't need formal training experience; you need a skill and the patience to pass it on. Even a week of focused instruction leaves something lasting.

What we ask
  • Demonstrated expertise in a practical skill
  • Confirmed placement scope before travel
🍲

Kitchens & Street Feeding

Anyone willing to work — no qualification needed

Help in our residential kitchens feeding hundreds of children daily, or join a street feeding team serving meals to street children and the homeless. This is hands-on, physical work. It is also some of the most direct human contact you will have.

What we ask
  • Good physical health
  • Confirmed placement dates before travel
🏥

Health Camps & Medical

Doctors, nurses, surgeons, paramedics, pharmacists

Join our mobile health camp teams delivering free care to remote villages and underserved communities. Structured clinical role — you will see patients and work alongside our permanent medical staff. Specialist surgeons and visiting doctors are especially welcome for intensive camp periods.

What we ask
  • Valid medical licence in home country
  • Malpractice insurance
  • Confirmed placement before travel
🎨

Arts, Sports & Play

Anyone who loves working with children — artists, musicians, sports coaches, or simply people who are good with kids

Spend time with the children in our residential homes — art sessions, music, sports, games, or reading together. Many of these children have never had an adult sit with them and simply play. Your attention and presence are the gift. No qualification needed — just warmth and a willingness to show up.

What we ask
  • Confirmed placement dates before travel
📸

Media & Documentation

Photographers, videographers, journalists

Document our field programmes for impact reporting, donor communications, and programme records. All content is owned by MTN. This is a working role, not a personal portfolio trip.

What we ask
  • Portfolio of relevant work
  • Agreement to MTN content usage terms
  • Confirmed scope before travel

Common Questions

What kind of volunteer does MTN welcome?
Anyone who comes with genuine intent to contribute — whether that is a doctor joining a health camp, a teacher taking classes in our residential school, a sewing trainer working with our women's programme, or someone willing to help serve meals at a street feeding station. You don't need a formal qualification for every role. You need to show up, work hard, and care about the people you are serving.
How long do I need to stay?
We welcome short stays. Even a week of focused, hands-on contribution makes a difference — especially in kitchens, feeding programmes, and skills training. Longer stays allow deeper engagement and are preferred for medical and teaching roles, but we don't impose a minimum. Tell us how long you have and we'll find the best fit.
Do volunteers need to contribute to costs?
In-person volunteers cover their own airfare, visa, and travel insurance, and make a modest daily contribution toward food and accommodation (~$50/day). We keep this as low as possible — it covers running costs, not a profit.
Can my church group come and visit?
Yes — field visits for church and supporter groups are warmly welcomed. These are arranged as donor visits: groups come to see the work, meet the people their giving supports, and deepen their connection to the mission. If your group is also interested in a specific skills contribution alongside the visit, let us know and we can explore what that might look like.
What if I don't have a professional qualification?
Remote volunteering is open to anyone with genuine capacity — strong writing and research skills, fundraising experience, language ability, or design skills. You don't need a formal credential, just a real skill and the commitment to follow through. Tell us what you do and we'll let you know if there's a fit.
Do I need to speak the local language?
No. English is sufficient for every role on this page. MTN staff translate when needed. For our remote translation roles, proficiency in Telugu, Tamil, Sinhala, or Thai is specifically what we are looking for.
What background checks are required for child-facing roles?
Medical volunteers must provide proof of current licensure. Beyond that, we ask that you come with a confirmed placement, good intent, and a willingness to work hard.
Will I receive any recognition for my service?
Yes. Every volunteer receives a certificate of service from MTN at the end of their placement, documenting the role, the programme, and the duration of their contribution. This can be used for professional portfolios, CVs, university applications, or simply as a record of something meaningful you did.
